Breastfeeding is beautiful, but not always comfortable. A quality maternity and breastfeeding bra can make all the difference. Not only can a nice nursing bra make it easier and more comfortable to breastfeed, but it can also be healthier for new moms.

Discover the best nursing bras that will improve your breastfeeding journey.

Best Breastfeeding Bras for Comfort and Function

From adjustable straps and comfortable fabric to flexibility and pumping options, nursing bras offer features that improve life for post-partum moms. Some also function as maternity bras, helping you through the changes in your body.

As a mom who breastfed three babies, some of my top priorities for nursing bras were flexibility and adjustability. Hormones and milk supply make for wild fluctuations in breast size. A great nursing bra eases these challenges. Here are our top choices you can trust.

1. Best Nursing Bra Overall: Hatch

Soft, comfortable, and effortless to use, The Essential Nursing And Pumping Bra is a winner. This wireless option is perfect for day and night. You can pump discreetly using the second layer that opens in a slit.

Pull-down the corner of the bra for easy breastfeeding. Just remove the clasp with one hand and you're all set. Keep in mind that this is a pullover bralette and doesn't feature hook and eye clasps.

Customers Say: "I wish I had this bra in my previous postpartum experiences! I purchased it in three colors and I love the fit. It feels supportive and is easy to nurse and pump in." - Adrianna S.

2. Best Bralette for Nursing: Negative Underwear

Designed by breastfeeding mamas, this bra fits perfectly from maternity through breastfeeding. Feel confident in this silky bralette that stretches and adjusts to your changing body. A clasp in the back makes this bra easy to remove. Plus, pull down clasps ensure no-hassle feeds.

Customers Say: "It feels like I’m wearing nothing but supported in all the right ways. Thank you negative underwear for finally giving women what they wanted!" - Christine S.

3. Best Supportive Nursing Bra: Momanda

For those wanting a more traditional bra, Momanda offers an underwire nursing bra. Ideal for a few months into your postpartum days, this bra is lightly lined. This is a plus if you have sensitive nipples due to breastfeeding, as not all nursing bras have a lining.

Momanda's underwires are specially designed for flexibility and movement as you feed your baby. Plus, pull down easily with the one-handed nursing clips. We also love the lace detail on the sides that can give you a confidence boost.

Customers Say: "I am a larger, busty woman and I have been disappointed by just about every other nursing bra. My only regret with this one is that I didn't buy more." - Jessica D.

4. Best Maternity Bra: Bodily

Ideal for maternity and the early days of breastfeeding, Bodily's The Effortless Bra stretches to accommodate fluctuations in size. A five-row back closure means a thicker band for greater comfort.

This bra is intentionally flexible and stretch to prevent problems like engorgement or clogged ducts. Unlike other nursing bras, this bra doesn't feature a nursing pull down. Instead, you'll pull the bra and strap off to the side to nurse - meaning it's not as discreet and easy for using in public.

Customers Say: "The comfiest nursing bra I’ve tried! And stylish too." - Lara C.

5. Best Wireless Nursing Bra: MomCozy

Enjoy the look and feel of an underwire bra without the underwire. The MomCozy bra includes an extra extender so you're comfortable through every stage and size. It also features adjustable padding for maximum comfort.

Customers Say: "I'm a mom of 4 and I wish I had this with my others. The fabric is SO soft and stretchy but also extremely supportive." - Cassidy O.

6. Best Nursing Bra for Pumping: Kindred Bravely

Pump, nurse, and relax with the Kindred Bravely Sublime® Hands-Free Pumping & Nursing Bra. The double layer system makes it easy to pump discreetly using the slits. Or, pull down that layer as well for easy nursing.

The wireless bra also comes with a bra extender, making it easy to adjust to your size throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding. Although the bra has thousands of positive reviews, one common complaint is that the bra fits tight. So, beware and consider sizing up.

Customers Say: "Love the versatility of this nursing bra! Best bra for a nursing/pumping Mama! Wish I had more!" - Anonymous

7. Softest Bralette for Nursing: Knix

This wireless bralette is a dream for nursing. Soft fabric and one-handed clasps provide function and comfort. Simple and light, this bra is comfortable all day or all night.

Customers Say: "Of the many nursing bras I’ve tried between my two babies, this is by far my favourite. So comfy but still has good support and is easy to clip and unclip." - Nicole H.

Tips on the Best Nursing Bra

A nursing bra should be supportive, but not too tight.  Compression of the breast can cause clogged ducts, engorgement, or even mastitis. This is especially a concern in the early days of nursing. So, choose a large enough size.

You might even want to order two sizes, a size larger than normal and your normal size that you'll wear regulates. Or, choose nursing bras that include extenders or have flexible bands.

Also keep in mind that leaking milk around the clock can be tough to manage in the early days. Personally, I wore a bra at night to hold nursing pads in place to catch leaks for the first few months.

So, in addition to nursing bras, consider investing in reusable nursing pads.

Ultimately, the best nursing bra is comfortable and helps you feel like the superwoman you are!
