Toddler Tower FAQs
A toddler tower is a hybrid stool and ladder that offers a stable surface on which toddlers can safely reach kitchen counters. Featuring a secure railing around the waist area, toddler towers help prevent falls while providing them the independence they crave.
Most importantly, a toddler tower brings toddlers and young children up to where the action is happening in the kitchen. That way, instead of grabbing your legs or standing on their tippy-toes, they can actually participate. Aligned with the Montessori philosophy, toddler towers make it easy for young children to build skills while stirring, chopping, pouring, washing dishes, and more! Toddler towers are also ideal for use in the bathroom and other areas around the house.
Yes, Toddler Towers must meet safety standards that ensure the safety of materials and design. Piccalio’s Toddler Towers conform to ASTM F963, U.S. CPSC, and California Prop 65. Plus, they are Greenguard Gold and Intertek certified. These standards test for a range of structural safety standards, as well as protect indoor air quality by testing for 10,000+ pollutants and substances.
You can view our Safety & Certification page to see exactly how we test our furniture for your home.
While both are equally sturdy and safe, there are some differences between these two towers. While the Convertible Toddler Tower has the option to convert into a table and chair, the Foldable Toddler Tower folds for easy storage. Another feature of the Foldable Toddler Tower is an adjustable standing platform (3 height options), so you can change the height as your child grows. On the other hand, the Convertible Toddler Tower has an adjustable step (3 height options), which is used as a seat when the tower converts into a table.
A toddler tower is for children ages 18 months through 6 years. To safely use a toddler tower, your little one should be able to stand up independently. Some children may be ready younger than 18 months, while others may be ready after they are 18 months old.
When we design a Toddler Tower for modern homes, we focus on neutral finishes, clean lines, and furniture-grade materials rather than bright colors, busy patterns, or plastic components. Our Toddler Towers are made to integrate naturally into kitchens and shared living areas so they can stay out without disrupting the look of the home.
Instead of functioning as temporary play equipment, we build Toddler Towers as everyday furniture that supports independence while maintaining a calm, uncluttered environment.
For homes with limited space between counters or islands, we often recommend a foldable Toddler Tower. Foldable designs offer flexibility without sacrificing stability, allowing the tower to store flat when not in use while still providing a secure standing platform during daily routines.
This makes a foldable Toddler Tower a practical option for apartments, smaller kitchens, and shared family spaces.
Yes. We construct our Toddler Towers using materials that meet recognized safety and environmental standards. All Piccalio Toddler Towers are GREENGUARD Gold certified and tested for over 10,000 harmful substances to help support healthier indoor air quality.
Our designs also conform to ASTM, U.S. CPSC, and California Prop 65 requirements, ensuring both material safety and structural integrity.
Many families view a Toddler Tower as a foundational piece rather than a short-term purchase. Because it supports daily routines, independence, and multi-year use, it often sees far more consistent use than single-purpose toys.
We design our Toddler Towers with durability, adaptability, and long-term household use in mind—factors that contribute to lasting value, especially for families prioritizing fewer, higher-quality pieces.
Toddler Towers, designed for real homes
At Piccalio, we design Toddler Towers to maximize comfort in shared spaces. Our towers are made to add to your home—not compete with it—by matching modern aesthetics that support daily routines. With neutral finishes, clean lines, and solid wood construction, each Toddler Tower functions as real furniture that looks beautiful in kitchens, open-concept living areas, and smaller homes.
Many families choose Toddler Towers for spaces where design matters just as much as function. Instead of busy patterns, bright visual elements, or plastic components, we prioritize visual calm, durability, and furniture-forward designs that can stay out without overwhelming the space. Families who value this approach often look for complementary pieces that carry the same design philosophy throughout the home.
Supporting Montessori-inspired independence through everyday routines
We design Toddler Towers to help children safely transition from watching to participating. By standing securely at counter height, children can take part in practical life activities like food preparation, pouring, washing dishes, and observing everyday household tasks.
This kind of participation supports independence, coordination, and confidence through real experiences—not staged play. Independence works best in environments that feel calm and organized, which is why many families pair a Toddler Tower with thoughtful toy storage that keeps materials accessible and easy for children to return on their own as part of daily routines.
Built for safety, stability, and long-term use
Safety and material quality guide every Toddler Tower we design. Our towers meet or exceed recognized safety standards, including ASTM, U.S. CPSC, and California Prop 65 requirements.
We use GREENGUARD Gold-certified materials that are tested for over 10,000 harmful substances to help support healthier indoor air quality. Solid wood construction and carefully considered proportions promote stability during everyday use across multiple stages of childhood—making Toddler Towers a dependable part of daily family life, not a short-term solution.
Toddler Towers for small spaces and growing families
We design Toddler Towers to meet the needs of different homes and family stages.
Foldable Toddler Tower
We created our Foldable Toddler Tower for tight spaces between counters and islands. It folds flat for storage when not in use and features adjustable standing heights so it can grow alongside your child.
Convertible Toddler Tower
Our Convertible Toddler Tower transforms into a table and chair, extending its use beyond the kitchen. This option works well for families who prefer fewer, multi-purpose pieces that adapt over time.
As children grow more confident standing and participating at counter height, many families add a dedicated space for seated activities. Our Kids Table & Chairs collection supports drawing, meals, puzzles, and focused play—creating a natural progression from shared kitchen routines to independent table work.
Designed for longevity beyond the early years
Toddler Towers are often used daily for several years, which is why we design them as foundational household pieces rather than temporary accessories. Many families use the same Toddler Tower across siblings or pass it along thanks to its durable construction and timeless, neutral design.
Families who start with a Toddler Tower often continue building a cohesive Montessori-inspired home over time. A common next step is transitioning to a Montessori bed, which supports independence beyond the kitchen by encouraging safe, self-directed sleep in a calm, furniture-forward design that aligns with the rest of the home.
