Aneta Kostic, Co-Founder of Piccalio and Toddler Mom, Shares Her Recommendations for Summer
This summer feels especially exciting for our family. Now that my daughter is a toddler, she is constantly on the move and suddenly able to join in on so much more than she could last year.
As we’ve made our way through the warmer spring days and into summer, I’ve collected a handful of things that have made life with a toddler a little easier, more comfortable, and more fun. Below are my summer essentials we’ve been reaching for most.
Best Toddler Sunscreen

My favorite sunscreen for kids is the unscented version of Attitude SPF 50. It comes in a spray, which makes it easy to apply. Plus, it doesn’t leave that heavy white cast.
This sunscreen uses non-nano zinc oxide to block both UVA and UVB rays. It is water-resistant for up to 80 minutes, so you do need to reapply frequently if swimming or sweating.
I always apply sunscreen for myself and my daughter at least fifteen minutes before sun exposure. We find it's easy to use and doesn't bother my daughter's sensitive skin.
Best Summer Hat for Toddler

Finding a summer hat your toddler will actually wear isn't easy. We like this summer hat from Milk Teeth. Adjustable, shapeable, actually practical, and cute enough. A true summer staple.
Best Toddler Sunglasses
Another essential for time in the sun is a good pair of sunglasses. I like these Ki ET LA sunglasses because they protect against UV rays and have child-friendly hinges that won't pinch little fingers or pull hair.
Best Toddler Swimwear

For swimwear, I like the long-sleeved options from Konges Sløjd and Minnow.
When shopping for long-sleeved shirts for swimming, double-check they protect against UV rays. I personally like using these styles because you don't have to worry as much about your toddler getting sunburn on their arms.
For wrapping up after the pool, we love this OAS terry cotton bathrobe.
Best Toddler Sandals

These Mini Melissa Possession sandals are a classic. Cute, easy to put on, practical for everywhere from the beach to the playground. I’ve honestly been eyeing them in my size too.
Favorite Toddler Girl Summer Clothes

For toddler summer clothes, I always choose cotton because it's cool and comfortable even in the heat.
- Nature Baby’s Gingham Set. Made from soft organic cotton, it feels nicely made and holds up well. They also have it in red here, and pants in the same style. Another favorite is this Strawberry Tank with matching Bloomers.
- Tinycottons tee and shorts sets are always a yes if you’re drawn to bolder, more colorful styles. They have great options for both girls and boys and are easy to wear all summer without feeling too precious.
- For special occasions, Misha and Puff is my go-to. The vintage-inspired patterns and thoughtful details make everything feel a little more special.
Summer and Beach Toys

It isn't summer without a trip to the beach. When we have the chance to play in the sand, I always bring this soft silicone Liewood beach set. Each set comes with a bucket, a shovel, and six different shapes. The sizing is perfect for toddlers, and it's super easy to pack.
Activities for Travel with Toddlers

Travel and running summer errands with a toddler is hard. Almost every time I head out with my daughter, there’s a point in the trip when I think to myself, “Did I really need to leave the house?” But somewhere along the way, things get a little bit easier, and it all feels worth it by the end.
We recently got our first set of Clixo. It’s lightweight, colorful, easy to pop in a bag, practically indestructible, and always fun. So much so that I want to play with it too. I also love that it keeps my daughter entertained while quietly encouraging fine motor skills and creativity.
Travel Essentials With Toddlers
Some other essentials we’ve used this summer include:
- Kids' Propolis Immune Support Throat Spray: Traveling, pollen, and long days can quickly turn into a scratchy throat or cold. I started using this throat spray with my daughter this summer for a little immune boost. It’s made from natural ingredients and supports immune health with vitamins and antioxidants
- Away Travel Packing Cubes: I love using packing cubes to keep my daughter’s items organized when we travel.
